Our mission is to provide our clients with the highest level of quality of life that is achievable.  We shall treat each of our clients with the respect and dignity they deserve, as though we were caring for a member of our own family.

The special people who deliver our unique brand of in-home senior care (We call them Comfort Keepers®.) are carefully selected, screened, and trained to provide professional, compassionate care.  

Our Story

We became a franchise in 2001. Julie became franchisee in 2004. Todd took over as franchisee in 2011. What set us apart is our RN care management, but also being a compassionate employer, and tailoring to the individual needs of our clients. As a franchisee in the Comfort Keepers organization, Todd Kuney may be one of the first “second generation” owners of a family business. His mom, Julie, was involved with Comfort Keepers from 2001—one of the very first offices that founders Kris and Jerry Clum helped to establish.

Julie was at a crossroads in her work life, having been employed at a local hospital for 25 years. Part of the typical “sandwich generation,” her aging parents needed much care and attention just as her own children were in college and beginning their own careers. Julie and her sister, Marcia juggled full time care of their mom, who passed away in 2000 after a stroke. Their dad lived on for several more years, but in their rural community, caring, dependable help seemed non-existent. When the opportunity to become involved in Comfort Keepers appeared, Julie took the chance, left her hospital employment and began building the Comfort Keepers business in Toledo Ohio. “The evolution of the franchise has been an exciting process,” shares Julie. “We began as slightly more than a ‘sitter service’ and have developed into a highly organized business offering a full continuum of personal and companion care available 24/7.”

The “Why” Julie is a Comfort Keeper is so she can help honor the wishes of those who want (just as her own mom and dad did) to live their lives out in the comfort of their own homes. “The business certainly is a tribute to them, but now as our son Todd, has taken over ownership of the franchise, I have more of an enduring vision for our Comfort Keepers office: Continue the mission of Comfort Keepers, provide an extraordinary work experience for our caregivers, and trust that the compassion and work ethic of the company is rewarded.

Our Philosophy

Interactive Caregiving™ is based on four primary pillars, which Comfort Keepers leverage to care for, engage, and interact with our clients:

  1. An active senior mind promotes independence, better mental and physical health, happiness, and a longer life.
  2. A physically active senior maintains strength and independence, lessening or delaying the effects of aging.
  3. A well-nourished senior is more energetic, both physically and mentally.
  4. A safe senior lives in an environment that reduces the likelihood of accidents and promotes timely response when illness or accidents occur.

With our Interactive Caregiving approach, we are able to raise seniors’ quality of life to a much higher level than typical in-home care providers.
